"My recipe for dog food -- I have been doing it for 15 years"
Edited on Wed Mar-21-07 01:12 PM by Grannyc

When we got our old dog from the pound. she wouldn't eat ANYTHING.. So I created a dog food that I made once a week. (two weeks when we has only Hannah)...

First and most important -- I keep dry food out/down at all times and feed small portions of wet food as a treat at night. My dry food is delivered from a health dog food place... sheesh they are spoiled.. Anyway the week's food:

Ingrediants:

2 tablespoons bullion paste
1 & 3/4 cup hot water in a 2 cop container
1/2 cup dry food (into same 2 cup container to absord hot water)
1 lb ground beef
2 cups dry rice (prepare per instructions with 4 cups water)

How to:

Fill large bowl 3/4 full with water and add 1 tbs bullion paste. crumble ground beef into the water and microwave until well done. Strain off au juice and save in old mayonaise jar in the fridge. When cold, remove the fat which floated to the top. Store in fridge for daily gravey.

Prepare dry rice by boiling 4 cups of water with 1 tbs bullion paste and adding 2 cups of rice. It cooks by sitting on 'warm heat' for 20 minutes.

Then: Mix moistened dry food (by this time it has fully absorbed the water and filled the 2 cup container) with the hamburger. And mix that mixture with the rice. For me, it takes two bowls. Then divide into plastic containers (the size you need for one day servings -- I use sour cream size for two dogs)...And store in fridge.

At night I heat up the amount of broth I will use to pour over the food in the microwave, I put the cold food in a pie tin and pour the hot broth over it. I give it a shake to blend the temperatures and feed two anxious dogs.

Hannah lived to be 18, and was never ill. The youngsters, are 4 now and have stayed healthy.
