"I think Joel Olsteen is getting a bad rap at Lakewood Church. "

They were slow to open up but I can understand that. I am very familiar with that particular location. The 9 and 11 Greenway loading docks share the same approach as Lakewood Church. At the loading dock, in order to get to the buildings, you pass by big huge steel flooding bulkhead doors. One for each building. Why do they call them flooding bulkheads?

Cuz it floods!!

They are about 20 feet long on huge hinge pins. The basement for Lakewood Church is right across from there at the very same level.

From DU, Osteen's church is only a shelter for taxes. And of 1566 churches in Houston only 60 opened their doors for shelter. Pretty poor excuses for their tax shelters if true.

is not somewhere you would want to be in a huge flood. The church part of it is up high but I'm pretty sure that basement was full of water during the flood. The commercial buildings adjacent to the common approach has bulkhead doors like you would find on a battleship. They are there soley to stop water from entering the building. The common approach is about 20 feet below street level.

I don't know if Lakewood church has big steel bulkheads, but I don't think they do.

Also a concert hall and a hockey arena. I saw a hockey game there and a stage version of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

One of the features of the big complex of buildings there is that there is very little surface parking. It's partly underground. The buildings at Greenway 3,4,5,9,11 and Lakewood Church all have underground parking as well as raised parking garages. The underground parking is all at the same level and interconnected. When the underground fills with water, it's probably about 20 to 30 olympic size swimming pools of water. The Greenway buildings are about 30 stories each.

Lakewood Church is not a conventional church with a pointed roof and a parking lot across the street. I think most people don't know that.

I know very little about the osteen dude, but he kind of gave trump like responses about using the place as a shelter. But, if he is one of those tv preachers looking for a handout like all of them, he is scum.
One of the first tv preachers I ever heard of was a dude called the Rev Ike from NYC. He admitted unlike the southern assholes he need money for a Cadillac.
All of that aside, how is things now the water is residing?

I go back to work thankfully tomorrow. I need to earn some money.

I'm kind of exhausted from digging out my sister's place. She had a foot and a half of water. Threw out most of her furniture. We gutted out the sheetrock and insulation to the first four feet which is the norm. Her house is now as naked as a jaybird. She has house insurance but not flood. She was told after the last severe flood she wasn't required to. I hope she can get assistance from FEMA.

They say there are no atheists in foxholes. A better saying would be in a natural disaster, everyone's a socialist.

I'm a hurricane veteran, but I would get the hell out of the way of a cat 5. Get somewhere safe like inside the Grand Canyon.

I live in Va, but who knows which way it will go. Current tracking has it near Key West Sat morning. If it gets in the gulf it can head north or north east and central Va several years ago about washed away.
