"Update on Brad Powers ( my relative shot in Vegas)"

From his mom

"White cell blood count (WBC) count still 21 thousand.... can't find source. With PT's help he can take about 10 steps, sitting up in reclining chair, goal is till 1:30= hour n half. Still waiting for consulting groups looking at CT scan. He's feisty, but that's a good thing. Thanks to everyone for their support .... still listed as critical/stable."

The injuries were abdominal. bullets entered from behind, pierced some intestines and other organs. went through the body and hit his Sheriff's badge (which was in his front pocket) The badge turned to shrapnel and pierced many parts of his external reproductive organs. He is in a lot of pain -- still.

From the pictures I've seen of Brad, he looks to be stocky and robust. I'm sure those qualities helped him survive this senseless carnage.

I'm still trying to figure out what set the shooter off. I've speculated about cheating at slots, but I haven't heard any new news in that regard. One thing I've noticed about Paddock from his pictures is that it looks like he really had bags under his eyes. He played various video poker machines to the extreme, for hours on end. And he was heard to remark, "I don't do sunshine. "(doesn't go outdoors).

I have a vitamin D deficiency that I'm trying to correct. Part of that is getting exposed to sunshine(vitamin D). Vitamin D is very important to the body.

Keep the faith grannyc.

Did he just want to have his name known everywhere?

Brains do very strange things, when the host is ill.

His brain had no obvious abnormalities. The Texas Tower shooter back in 1965, Charles Whitman, was found to have a brain tumor.

I would be curious about a vitamin D deficiency. He probably did. It's pretty common.

I still want to understand his motive. After this much death and destruction. He wasn't poor. He wasn't political. I don't want to chalk this up to "We'll never know."

If we can point to a "difference" between ourselves and this killer, we can feel secure that we won't ever do what he has done.

The fact is, we all share a very savage heritage. Killing is part of us. And modern weapons make it possible for one to kill many.

Back in 1967, Robert Hammer and Gene Coon wrote the Star Trek episode "A Taste of Armageddon". In that episode, Kirk makes the statement "We're human beings with the blood of a million savage years on our hands, but we can stop it. We can admit that we're killers, but we're not going to kill today. That's all it takes. Knowing that we won't kill today."

I've always considered that to be the essence of civilization. We have to know that we won't kill today.

Paddock simply decided that he would kill. He would release his frustrations by killing as many as possible.

And we seek this "difference" because we don't want to be like him.

There are tens of millions of people with brain tumors who didn't attempt to shoot into a crowd. There are millions upon millions of people who are poorly socialized or who have been bullied or who have been injured by another - and do not kill.

We don't want to be like the killers. And we aren't. But the difference is simply that we decided not to kill today.

That's not comforting, and it's not what most of us want to hear.

But if it wasn't true, the world's militaries could not exist.

The original series written during the Age of Aquarius has a lot to teach.

After any horrific train accident, auto accident or ship accident, we want a reason. The death and injury demands investigation. I've read opinions that have said that Charles Whitman's brain tumor should have had little to do with Whitman's sniper rampage. But I still want to know that Whitman had a brain tumor.

As for Star Trek, the episode "The Enemy Within" written by legendary sci fi writer Richard Matheson has a lot to teach democrats; To be an effective leader, it's not enough to be a goody two shoes boy scout. You also need a streak of evil for decision making in the recipe.

Good to hear that he's able to get up and move around some. Hope he makes a full recovery.
