At the beginning of the count I thought the pedophile may well win, but the entire middle of the state went for Jones. That is what is troubling for America, the rural voters in the north and the southern part of Ala.. The same for my state VA. Saw post where someone posted that African American voters have done more for white America than Trump. So true in Ala.

James Carville said that. Maybe we shouldn't make jokes about Alabama for awhile. They did come through.

There is the Orange Curtain in California. The Piney Woods Curtain here in Texas. Every state has it's hills and valleys,...except Florida. That's one flat SOB.

And it had a long involved description of how the Boers had kept apartheid in place for such a long time.

But it really wasn't complicated. Whenever the government tried to relax the apartheid state in any way, the rural conservatives would come out of the hills and force them to retain apartheid exactly as it was.

The analogy to the current status of the USA is obvious. Apparently, poor education and little contact with others is a necessary part of the recipe for developing a gang of conservatives.

If this country were to ever have another civil war, it wouldn't look like the 1860 Mason -Dixon line. It would look like the thousands of nasty glass shards of Bosnia Herzogovina 1990s.

Conservative assholes in the hillsides with their guns and cowering citizens inside the cities.

Apart from river bottom land, which won't be a necessity much longer, the rural areas are slowly being turned back to woods, which get cut about once every 40 years. It's happened to the farm I was raised on.

There are no jobs and little hope. And that's the problem.

I don't have a solution, but they are voting for anyone that says they can fix it. And that's going to destroy us.

(Oh, the land won't be needed remark? https://qz.com/863358/rooftop-hydroponic-systems-in-cities-produce-vegetables-that-are-cheaper-and-healthier-than-rural-farms/ )

Some day Parks and Wildlife will be paying people to shoot deer. I used to hunt deer. My dispatcher recently stopped hunting deer. Too expensive he says. When us old timers stop hunting, there are no youngsters ready to take our places.

Insurance companies hate deer. When the insurance companies start raising hell about deer/car accidents, something will give. They will probably pay people to kill deer.

I didn't even mention feral hogs yet. They aren't a threat to vehicles, usually, but they are destructive. They displace a lot of the native species. Hogs are non-native species. Deer and wild turkey get displaced or killed. Plus all the property damage to folks gardens.

To wildlife biologists way of looking at it, the only good hog is a dead hog. They wish hunters would shoot each and every hog.

They'd rather have deer than hunters, because they aren't liable for damage to a deer.

In Va. the federal government is probably the largest employer. Northern Va is blue, but get 40 miles away it turns red. The old farts out in the country are solidly red and as people move further out to escape high real estate costs they seem to be joining the old farts. Unemployment is nonexistent out in the rural areas here and all those things that seem to put people in Trumps corner in other areas is not true here. In other words people have jobs have a fairly good education yet still vote for every right wing politician that comes down the pike. Moore would probably have won here, but not in the whole state thanks to highly populated areas who have voted blue since Obama first won.

I've always thought that the red areas were rocks and coyotes, while the blue areas were schools and libraries.

Texas is going to go from red to pink to purple to blue. It is inevitable. Thanks mostly to Hispanic voters. The Hispanic population is growing. White and black populations grow at the same rate and maintain a pretty even number.
