"I wonder that Trump may be angling to fire Mueller."

Cuz the talking heads at Faux News are all synchronized to paint Mueller as some kind of lawyered up coup against an elected president. And the timing. If he were to fire Mueller over the Christmas weekend, it would miss most of the news cycle plus it would be coming behind the tax bill.

Mueller has all their emails and their testimony regarding the emails. He could do some heavy damage as he walked out the door. But this Congress would do no retribution to Trump.

He might can Mueller, but it would seal the deal on him looking like the biggest crook since R M Nixon.

Yeah, you are right that congress will do nothing. He is their useful idiot. Now that they have passed the tax scam what else can they do to damage the country?

'What else can they do?'

They don't need any ideas.

Some people at DU were arguing that Mueller has enough dirt on Trump and Co. to not be fired. Others say Trump may make a move this weekend.

What he's done is pass over information to the New York and New Jersey state attorney generals. If Trump starts off with firing or pardoning anyone, then Eric Tradd Schneiderman will be more than happy to tear them a new one in a court where Trump CANNOT pardon them.

Go look at Schneiderman's twitter account if you want some fun.

It chaps Mueller's ass, I'm sure, but that may be as far as they go.

Trump is playing checkers and Mueller is playing chess. Trump knows this. If Trump were to fire Mueller, this would play out as a brain power contest between the con man realtor from Queens and the straight arrow FBI pro. It would play out as supreme comedy. My money would be on the pro.

It's not about Mueller or the FBI.

Let's talk political reality for a moment.

The GOP leadership all around knows Trump is crooked and that most of their candidates are stupid as a brick. If you needed an absolute demonstration that connections and luck play far more into getting rich than brains, you'd need to look no further than Rick Perry. Yeah, the doofus who didn't even know the main job of the DOE, but wanted to abolish it anyhow.

When the "responsible" member of your dream team is that ignorant of what his basic homework should be, it rather says something, doesn't it?

So the leadership knows that the Trump campaign broke laws all over the place, BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T KNOW OR CARE WHAT THE LAW WAS! They weren't that smart and didn't care anyhow.

This incompetence is on huge display all over the USA now. The Republican Party is shown to be utterly incompetent and unfit to govern, top to bottom.

So whatta do about THAT? Especially since their guy may well be indicted in federal court in a couple of months. AND their pet VP, Pence.

Their fear is that the Democratic Party may well not only take the midterms, but sweep the board utterly.

They've got to energize the base totally to turn out to "get revenge" on Democrats.

Only way they can do that is to make them think this is all about Hillary "getting" Trump. Which is exactly what they are doing.

If Clinton gave a damn about the party (which I don't think she does) she'd go on a really long stay in Europe. A year or so.

Not bad. Reading the tea leaves on republicans can be difficult. I figure there are only a few Roves dictating the agenda. If republicans can motivate the base for a fictitious war on Christmas, who knows how much mileage they could get out of an impeachment.

I sure as hell wish the democrats could be motivated to "avenge the crime". We have some real doozies. The horseshit impeachment of Bill Clinton in '98, Bush v. Gore, the robbery of Kerry in Ohio 2004 and the unfolding Trump/Russia pretzel.
