We are warm here in Houston, but it does freeze in the winter. Tonight it will get down to about 25 degrees Fahrenheit. Plenty cold enough to kill our state bird, the mosquito. For a little while anyway. It'll probably be the coldest night of our year.

I'd like to plant some coleus and marigolds in the front as well as getting some rosemary bushes going. I like to cook with rosemary as well. Great aroma.

Today I will cut the rose blooms, to put in vases in the house. Tomorrow or next week the bushes will be trimmed back to their main sturdy stems. (Rosenstiel -- actually means 'stem of the rose').. Can you imagine January 2nd and roses are still blooming?

We are ready for a beautiful year..

Unusually cold in Memphis. The usual "disproves global warming" nonsense.

Makes you wonder if these guys know the meaning of the word "global".

It is warmer in Anchorage and Fairbanks than here in Northern Va. Had a low of 6 this morning. Global warming does that.

Snow is not seen often in these parts. Not enough to make a snowman or probably even a snowball, but white flakes dropping from the sky gets our attention.

From the global heat maps, it would appear that open water in the Arctic plus warm weather in Siberia pushed the usual cold air over the Arctic over this way.

And yeah, that's global warming.

Like a displaced person. But it's displaced weather.

Usually in cold snaps like this, Rush Limbaugh sticks his head out the window. If Rush oinks once it means there is no global warming and if Rush oinks twice, it means there is no global warming.
